Retinoblastoma problem is rising among the Indian children:

All India Institute of Medical Science report.

Retinoblastoma is a rare type of eye cancer and emerging very fast among Indian children, said: leading ophthalmologists AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences & Centre for Sight)

New Delhi, Retinoblastoma (eye cancer) is rapidly emerging among Indian children, leading eye specialists at Centre for Sight, AIIMS said that on Thursday.

Very confidently they said, though 1 out of 20,000 children is on the risk of Retinoblastoma, but this is increasing yearly.

The misconceptions about the symptoms and the late treatment are the major reasons that the cancer of the eye even spread to the brain and then to the entire body part, ultimately patient has no option to get treated.

Retinoblastoma

"Retinoblastoma occurs among children below 5 years of age. This can be caused non-genetically or genetically both.
Due to lack of awareness of the parents they only bring their children when they observe any major in the eye. Said Dr Vikas Menon, Consultant Retinoblastoma and Ocular Oncology at Centre for Sight.

He was speaking to 'eyecarecenters blog' during an Interview at Centre for Sight Safdarjung, Delhi.

This is very clear most of the Indian parent do not recognise the symptoms because of lack in the awareness of this disease.
Dr Vikas also said that any patient with squint, or white spot in the eye or any shine in the eye balls should go and tested for Retinoblastoma.

He also said in many cases it becomes very difficult to save the sight which gets majorly affected during the disease.

Dr Vikas at RP centre also said the major problems with Indians suffering from retinoblastoma is that they visit doctors only when it get's very late. India has made some finest options to treat cancer in the eye.

Treatments like laser surgery, chemotherapy with perfect effect are the only way to cure the disease. The situation is such that currently it is not possible to save the eyesight of the patients after the surgery, however research in on to make it possible," Dr Vikas tols https://www.eyecarecenters.blogspot.com
