CATARACT is a medical condition in which the lens of the eye becomes increasingly clouded, leading to loss of vision.
What causes CATARACTS?
95% of cataracts are age-related.Other factors include ultraviolet radiation (sun exposure), obesity smoking, eye injury, high myopia, steroid medications, and family history.
Some facts about CATARACTS
- Cataract is the most cause of blindness in the world.- Common symptoms of cataracts include blurred vision, double vision, increased glare, appearance of halos around lit objects and faded appearance of colors.
- During cataract surgery, the deteriorated lens is removed and replaced with a customized artificial prescription lens called an intraocular lens (IOL).
- Nine out of 10 patients who have cataract surgery regain 20/20 to 20/40 vision.
- All cataract-related vision loss is completely reversible with cataract surgery.
